Welcome to menopause care matters

A supportive space for women of all cultures navigating perimenopause and menopause. This natural stage of life can bring significant physical, emotional, and cognitive changes, yet it is too often misunderstood or dismissed.

Our mission is to provide, evidence-based guidance and compassionate care, helping women recognize their symptoms, explore treatment options, and approach this transition with confidence, safety, and dignity.

What is Perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, marked by fluctuations and a gradual decline in estrogen levels as the ovaries begin to produce less of this hormone. This period can last several years causing many life altering symptoms. Perimenopause ends one year after the final menstrual period, marking the onset of menopause.

What is menopause?

Menopause is a natural phase of life that marks the end of a womans’s menstrual cycle. The average age of menopause is 51 years but it can vary amongst women of various ethnic backgrounds. This stage in life is accompanied by changes in physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.

if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you don’t need to suffer in silence

“Knowledge is the doorway that leads to success and overall well-being”

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Menopause

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps individuals understand the relationship between their inner thoughts, feelings and behavioural patterns. A practical, evidence-based, approach that has helped women manage the emotional and physical challenges of perimenopause and menopause. Research has shown that CBT can effectively reduce the impact of hot flashes, night sweats, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and mood changes. At Menopause Care Matters our goal is to create a safe and warm environment where women can receive menopausal support not only through therapeutic avenues but also using the principles of CBT. We provide counselling to help our clients identify their concerns and reframe unhelpful thought patterns. In doing so women report that they have been able to regain control, build resilience, and navigate this life transition with greater confidence.

about me

Hello, I am Kareema Nizar, a dedicated Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner with over two decades of clinical experience in women’s health, diabetes education, psychotherapy, and menopause care. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of providing comprehensive primary healthcare to individuals across diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds. Over time, I recognized a significant gap in knowledge and support for women navigating perimenopause and menopause.

As an advocate for women’s health, and my own personal journey through this stage in life, I was inspired to establish Menopause Care Matters with the mission of bridging this gap. My goal is to empower women through education, compassionate guidance, and evidence-based care, enabling them to approach this transition with confidence, clarity, and strength.

  • We value getting to know our clients on a personal level, so we prefer to hold the first one or two sessions in person. After that, clients are welcome to continue in person or switch to virtual sessions, whichever works best for them. For those unable to attend in person from the start, we are happy to provide virtual consultations.

  • Most private insurance plans provide coverage for psychotherapy. You may also be able to claim expenses through your health spending account or on your annual taxes.

  • We encourage all clients to complete the medical history forms prior to their initial assessment so we can make the most of our first visit together. Our goal is to schedule new clients within one week.

  • With your consent, we will share a consultation note with your primary care provider to ensure holistic and coordinated care. If you prefer not to involve your doctor, we will respect your choice.
